Look at your bolt & you can see how the 'main-spring' needs to compress as you turn the bolt back into proper position. It's been a while but I had mine slip out also before the proper time. I may of took some vice grips & put the other end in a vice, all well protected to prevent dinging up the metal, used cloth, leather whatever. You basically have to twist it back into position. It takes a firm grip & it should work.
